West Ham United have submitted a new bid for Lucas Paqueta as discussions continue with Lyon, with the Hammers keen on securing the Brazilian.
According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United remain hopeful of signing Lucas Paqueta despite having their first bid rejected by Lyon. The Hammers have since made a new offer as talks with the French club continue, and the aim would be to resolve the matter sooner rather than later.
West Ham United are very active in the transfer market, with David Moyes keen to land some of their critical targets before the deadline. One of them seems to be the need for an attacking midfielder, as the Hammers remain in pursuit of Lucas Paqueta.
Paqueta emerged as a coveted target for some top clubs in the Premier League, and the South American midfielder has been open to moving to England. However, since early enquiries were made regarding his availability, the interest seemingly cooled off.
Out of the blue, West Ham United made a €40 million bid to understand Lyon’s stance. The two clubs were believed to be in advanced talks for the attacking midfielder, although Paqueta’s preference to join the Hammers remained unknown.

The latter is still the case, although considering West Ham are deep in conversation with their Lyon counterparts, the assumption of discussions with the player and his entourage could be obvious. Moving to a Premier League club could be a viable upgrade for the player.

The Hammers have now submitted a new bid, but the numbers are yet to be revealed. West Ham remain keen on bringing the Brazilian to the London Stadium. Lyon are yet to react to their latest offer, although they could be seeking more money for the player on a contract until 2025.
Other interested parties could also swoop in if there is an impasse between the clubs. Arsenal have been interested throughout the summer but have yet to make any concrete offer. They might consider making a late approach if they see a window of opportunity.
As things stand, West Ham are the only club in the mix for Paqueta, who seems keen to leave Lyon before the summer transfer window shuts down. Whether they are successful with the new bid remains to be seen, although if they manage to sign the Brazilian, he will be quite the coup.
