Chelsea preparing a £75 million bid for Wesley Fofana

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana this summer, and a £75 million bid is in the works.

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are now set to submit an improved offer of around £75 million for their top defensive target Wesley Fofana, and Leicester City are waiting to make a final decision once the offer arrives from the Blues.

The 21-year-old centre-back is reportedly keen on moving to Stamford Bridge this summer, and it will be interesting to see if he gets his wish eventually. It is no secret that Chelsea will have to strengthen their defensive department following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen earlier on in the summer.

The Blues signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli as a replacement for Rudiger, but they are yet to bring in an alternative to Christensen. Fofana has proven his quality in the Premier League with Leicester, and he would be an excellent long-term acquisition for the Blues.

The Leicester City defender has the potential to develop into one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and a top-class coach like Thomas Tuchel could bring out the best in him and help him fulfil his tremendous potential at Chelsea.

The reported £75 million offer is a massive outlay for a player who is still relatively unproven in competitions like the UEFA Champions League. But Fofana has shown that he has the quality to reach the very top and justify the transfer fee in the long run.

The Blues were heavily linked with a move for former Sevilla defender Jules Kounde earlier on in the summer, but the Frenchman opted to join Barcelona instead. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can finish the summer transfer window with a flourish and land a quality centre-back like Fofana from their Premier League rivals.

Chelsea will need to improve defensively to challenge for the Premier League title this season and signing their top defensive target could make a big difference for them at the bank. Furthermore, the move to Stamford Bridge would be ideal for the youngster as well and he would get to learn from top-class players like Thiago Silva and accelerate his development.
