Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing PSG defender Abdou Diallo before the summer transfer window closes.

According to a report from Le Parisien, Abdou Diallo is on Steven Gerrard’s radar, and Aston Villa will look to conclude a deal for the 26-year-old PSG defender before the summer transfer window shuts down.

Abdou Diallo has been a part of the PSG first-team squad for a few years, but he has not been a regular starter for them. Diallo made just 12 appearances for PSG in Ligue 1 last term, and he will be hoping to play more often at this stage of his career.

Aston Villa could definitely use defensive reinforcements, and Diallo could prove to be a quality acquisition for them. The Premier League side were linked with the likes of Joe Gomez as well, but the English defender has chosen to stay with Liverpool instead.

Diallo could be a quality partner for Ezri Konsa at the heart of Aston Villa’s defence this season, and it remains to be seen whether the Villans and PSG can come to an agreement over the next few days. The chance to play in the Premier League is an attractive proposition for most players, and it is fair to assume that Diallo will be interested in the move.

Aston Villa were reliant on the partnership of Tyrone Mings and Konsa last season. Although Konsa managed to impress with his performances, Mings proved to be error-prone, and Gerard will have to find an alternative if Villa are to progress as a side after stripping the English international from the club captaincy.

Aston Villa have strengthened their squad significantly since the arrival of Steven Gerrard, but they need to improve their defensive unit in order to climb further up the table. And with summer signing Diego Carlos sidelined with a long-term injury, they have been keen on signing a centre-back, showing interest in Japhet Tanganga, Trevoh Chalobah, and others.

Diallo has the technical and physical attributes to thrive in the Premier League, and a move to Aston Villa could be just what he needs right now. The West Midlands club will be able to provide the PSG defender with regular game time, and the defender could showcase his true potential in English football.

The 26-year-old PSG defender is close to reaching his peak, and he could give his best years to Aston Villa if the Premier League side can secure his services before the window closes.
