Real Madrid will not launch the offensive to sign Antony, who will likely join Manchester United from Ajax this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Antony does not feature on Real Madrid’s agenda for the ongoing transfer window. The Brazilian attacker will likely leave Dutch champions Ajax to join Manchester United in a blockbuster move in the coming days.
Antony has made rapid strides since joining Ajax from Sao Paulo in July 2020, impressively filling the left by the departure of Hakim Ziyech two years ago. During his stint with the Dutch giants, the Brazilian international has established himself as a regular for club and country, growing in stature on the international stage.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old has started the 2022/23 campaign strongly, amassing two goals and two assists in three appearances across all competitions. And Antony’s progress at Ajax has captured the attention of several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid and Manchester United.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Marco Asensio. The Spanish international has entered the final year of his deal with Los Blancos and will unlikely pen a new contract. In addition, Eden Hazard’s situation at Real Madrid is going from bad to worse, with the Belgian international not showing signs of improvement.
Antony has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, albeit for a move in the 2023 summer transfer window. But the Brazilian international will likely leave Ajax this year after failing to turn up for training last week to force a move to Manchester United, who recently reignited interest in him.
The Red Devils have had a couple of bids rejected by Ajax thus far, but their confidence has risen after Antony’s actions last week. With the 22-year-old not featuring in Ajax’s game on the weekend, Manchester United will have a good chance of prising the youngster away from the Dutch club.
