Italian giants Lazio are plotting a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur outcast Sergio Reguilon.

According to Calciomercato, SS Lazio are considering making a summer move for Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon.

The Spaniard came through the ranks at Real Madrid, going on to win the UEFA Europa League while on loan with Sevilla. This saw him attract the attention of Tottenham, who signed him in the summer of 2020.

The 25-year-old enjoyed regular playing time at N-17, but the arrival of Antonio Conte has brought in a new challenge. Injuries and a fall from favour saw Reguilon drop down the pecking order last season. Ryan Sessegnon has been preferred over him, and the arrival of Ivan Perisic more or less consigns him to third-choice left-back at Tottenham.

The Spaniard is yet to feature for the club this season and is considered expendable. Lazio are aware of the situation and could offer the defender a way out. The Italians are keen to bring in a left-back and have now fallen short of their efforts to sign Emerson Palmieri. The Chelsea ace looks set to join West Ham, forcing Lazio to look elsewhere.

Lazio are not the only Italian side in the fray, with Atalanta also keen. La Dea also have an ace up their sleeve given Tottenham’s interest in Ukrainian striker Ruslan Malinovskyi. While an exchange could be on the cards, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side will struggle to match Reguilon’s wages at Spurs.

With the FIFA World Cup coming up, Reguilon will do with securing regular playing time. With that looking unlikely at Tottenham, a new challenge augurs well. Reliable in attack and defence, the Spaniard can thrive in the right system. Maurizio Sarri’s team could prove to be the 25-year-old’s salvation.

Lazio currently have Dimitrije Kamenovic and Riza Durmisi, and signing Reguilon will add to their left-back roster. The Spaniard will be an upgrade over the options already at their disposal, and a move could prove to be a win-win for all. Tottenham can do well with cashing in on the player and reinvesting it where Antonio Conte needs them to.
