Everton could step up their search for a new striker, and they are expected to table an offer to Ligue 1 club Rennes for Serhou Guirassy.

According to Rudy Galetti, Everton could submit an offer to sign Serhou Guirassy as Frank Lampard steps up the chase for a new striker. The Guinean international is free to leave after the arrival of Arnaud Kalimuendo from PSG.

Everton have started the season dismally, recording just a single point from their first three games. Much has been pointed towards the depleted squad quality following the exit of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s latest injury-enforced absence.

The latter’s absence has forced Frank Lampard to start the season without a recognised striker in games, despite having Salomon Rondon in his squad. Anthony Gordon has been tasked with leading the line for Everton, but the exciting youngster has failed to deliver the goods.

Demarai Gray’s equaliser rescued a point against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but the game severely highlighted the lack of a recognised striker in the team. Everton have been scouring the market for a new forward, but they have returned empty-handed so far.

Rennes’ Serhou Guirassy has been a target for weeks, with Everton stepping up their chase for the Guinean forward. His future at the Ligue 1 club is cast in doubt following the arrival of Arnaud Kalimuendo from PSG. And since they do not wish to hoard strikers, they could cash in on the 26-year-old frontman if the right offer arrives.

Guirassy scored nine times last season in Ligue 1, which could be deemed sufficient by those in charge at Everton. The need for a striker up front is considered urgent by Lampard, and the Toffees are likely willing to take a gamble at this stage of the transfer window.

While it is reported that Guirassy is keen on sealing a move to Everton, the Merseysiders have proposed no official offer. But the Toffees are now set to submit a proposal to sign the forward, although Rennes’ asking price for the 26-year-old Ligue 1 striker is yet to be revealed.

Everton are firm on their interest, having established contacts with Rennes. The new offer could be around the valuation Everton have in mind, although it is unclear whether Guirassy will arrive on loan or a permanent deal.

Guirassy could be the proper striker to fill the gap up front, at least until the return of Calvert-Lewin. The English striker is still the first choice to lead the line for Everton, but if the 26-year-old Guinean international is to perform well, it could add a sense of competition to a problematic area for Frank Lampard.
