Real Madrid face defeat in Bruno Guimaraes pursuit

Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Bruno Guimaraes are dead in the water, with Newcastle United uninterested in selling the 24-year-old Brazilian international.

According to a report by i News, Real Madrid will not sign Bruno Guimaraes in the ongoing transfer window, with Newcastle United uninterested in selling their star midfielder. In addition, the 24-year-old Brazilian international does not want to depart from St. James’ Park this summer as he is committed to the Magpies’ project.

Bruno Guimaraes has been one of the most highly-rated Brazilian midfielders in Europe since he joined Lyon from Athletico Paranaense in January 2020. The player came leaps and bounds at the Groupama Stadium, capturing the attention of some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe. But he sprang a surprise by choosing the Newcastle United project in January this year.

The 24-year-old joined a team that was in the relegation battle in the Premier League but became the driving force in helping them end the 2021/22 campaign as one of the most in-form units in the top flight. Guimaraes has turned out only 19 times for Newcastle, but he has already become their talisman. In addition, his progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

The reigning La Liga champions hold a long-standing interest in Bruno Guimaraes and have set their sights on the Brazilian international again. Real Madrid had hoped to have completed their summer transfer business following Aurelien Tchouameni’s arrival from AS Monaco.

But Casemiro’s decision to join Manchester United has changed things drastically at the Santiago Bernabeu, with reports painting a contrasting picture of Real Madrid’s stance in the market after the Brazilian international’s departure. While some have claimed that Real Madrid will not bring in a replacement, others have pointed toward Bruno Guimaraes as a potential replacement.

While the 24-year-old is not a like-for-like replacement for Casemiro, Tchouameni’s presence in the squad means he is a viable target for Real Madrid. But Bruno Guimaraes does not want to depart from St. James’ Park as he is committed to the Newcastle United project. In addition, the Magpies will not entertain any offers for their prized asset.

So Real Madrid’s hopes of signing Bruno Guimaraes in the summer transfer window are dead in the water, with the 24-year-old Brazilian international going nowhere. It will be interesting to see if the Merengues set their sights on an alternative in the coming days.
