Crystal Palace have reportedly started talks with Manchester United over a move for former defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a cut-price £10 million deal.

According to the Evening Standard, Aaron Wan-Bissaka could end up returning to former club Crystal Palace this summer, with the Eagles opening talks with Manchester United over a possible transfer.

Wan-Bissaka came through the youth ranks at Crystal Palace and made 46 senior appearances before Manchester United splashed a massive £50 million to sign him up from the Eagles in 2019. Upon arrival, the 24-year-old soon became the first-choice right-back at Old Trafford and impressed with his defensive nous and tackling ability.

However, Wan-Bissaka’s weakness in the attacking aspects of his game has been a concern for Manchester United for some time now, while the defender’s overall performances declined over the past season, leading to Diogo Dalot replacing him as the first-choice in the starting XI at right-back.

With Manchester United intent on signing a new right-back this summer, they have decided to part ways with Wan-Bissaka, who could now end up returning to his boyhood club Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace have Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne as options in the right-back position currently but both of them are in the final year of their respective contracts. On top of that, Ward will soon be turning 33 years old and will slowly need to be phased out of the team, which could explain Patrick Vieira’s interest in signing Wan-Bissaka this summer.

Having sold him for a massive sum of £50 million, Crystal Palace are looking to capitalise on Manchester United’s desperation to get him off the books and land the defender in a cut-price move. A possible fee of just around £10 million has been mentioned, with talks now underway between the two clubs over a transfer.

The report mentions that Manchester United could look into loaning Wan-Bissaka out in hope that his value increases after a solid season away from Old Trafford. It remains to be seen which route they decide to take as they look to offload the 24-year-old from the club to make room for a new arrival in the position, with Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Meunier emerging as a target.
