Arkadiusz Milik on Real Madrid radar

La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Polish striker from Ligue 1 club Marseille this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arkadiusz Milik is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. Los Blancos might have to enter the market for a striker again in the coming days amid the need to have a handy backup for Karim Benzema.

Arkadiusz Milik has stabilised a flailing career since joining Marseille from Napoli nearly 18 months ago. Injuries had ravaged the Polish striker’s career, but he has been relatively healthier during his stint with the Ligue 1 outfit, who signed him permanently last month after a season and a half on loan.

The 28-year-old has a reasonably solid tally of 30 goals and three assists in 55 appearances thus far for Marseille. But Milik is reportedly ready to embark on a new adventure in the ongoing transfer window despite joining the Ligue 1 giants permanently a few weeks ago. And his next destination could be Real Madrid.

The interest from Real Madrid might seem surprising, considering president Florentino Perez and manager Carlo Ancelotti have publicly insisted that Los Blancos will not sign another player this summer. The reigning La Liga champions have brought in only two players thus far, with Antonio Rudiger arriving in a Bosman move and Aurelien Tchouameni completing a big-money transfer.

But recent developments might force Real Madrid to delve into the market again, with Ancelotti bereft of a quality backup for Karim Benzema. Mariano Diaz is the only other natural striker at Real Madrid, with the 28-year-old attacker reportedly ready to leave Real Madrid.

Ancelotti and Perez might thus have to bite the bullet and enter the market for a centre-forward, with Milik emerging as a viable target. The 28-year-old striker seems to have put his injury woes behind him and will be a top-notch backup for Benzema.

It is unclear if Marseille will be open to selling the Polish international. But with intermediaries offering Milik to Everton and Manchester United, Real Madrid might succeed in prising him away from the Ligue 1 club if they seriously pursue a move.
