Manchester United and Newcastle United have reportedly been offered an opportunity to sign out-of-favour PSG striker Mauro Icardi.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi has been offered to Premier League clubs Manchester United and Newcastle United in the ongoing transfer window.

Icardi joined PSG in the summer of 2019, initially on a loan deal from Inter Milan, and enjoyed an impressive campaign in France. It prompted Les Parisiens to sign him permanently in 2020 but the Argentine has slowly dropped down the pecking order at the club. He played just 24 times in Ligue 1 last season, of which only ten were from the start.

Icardi is now deemed surplus to requirements at PSG, with new manager Christophe Galtier and director Luis Campos intent on getting rid of the 29-year-old. In their efforts to do so, they have seemingly offered the striker’s services to Premier League giants Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Manchester United are aggressively scouring the market for a new centre-forward following their disastrous start to the new season. Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains up in the air while Anthony Martial is sidelined with an injury, and Marcus Rashford is woefully out of form. It has left manager Erik ten Hag with no reliable option at the top, something the Red Devils are intent on addressing soon.

To that end, Manchester United have been linked with several strikers in the market but have had no success so far, as they have been rejected by targets like Alvaro Morata and Matheus Cunha, while Atletico Madrid have also rejected a massive €130 million bid from the Mancunian giants for Joao Felix.

Icardi’s name had been mentioned as a potential target for Manchester United in some corners recently, and they have now been offered a shot at signing the Argentine international. Along with Manchester United, fellow Premier League side Newcastle United have also been provided with an opportunity to secure the services of the 29-year-old from PSG.

Newcastle United are also in the hunt for a new striker to support Callum Wilson and share the goalscoring burden with the Englishman. Eddie Howe’s side have been linked with a host of players in the market but have been met with failures in their efforts to land their attacking targets. Given the situation, Icardi has presented himself as a situation, with the 29-year-old being offered to the Magpies.

However, as per Romano, neither Manchester United nor Newcastle United have made any kind of offer for Icardi at the moment. Furthermore, the Argentine has been approached by Turkish giants Galatasaray as well. So, a move to the Premier League looks unlikely for the former Inter Milan captain this summer.
