Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool keeping tabs on Moises Caicedo

Sir Jim Ratcliffe could replace Erik ten Hag with Graham Potter at Manchester United.

A host of clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool, are closely monitoring Moises Caicedo, but Brighton & Hove Albion may not entertain offers.

According to 90 min, Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo is on the radars of several clubs across Europe. Among his suitors are Barcelona, Liverpool and Chelsea, but the Seagulls are unlikely to entertain any approaches for the 20-year-old Ecuadorian international in this transfer window.

The latter stages of the summer transfer window will sometimes bring about opportunistic signings. That is because most big clubs are expected to have finalised their significant transfer business by this period and, many a time, tend to look for a player who could improve them in many ways.

Since the new Premier League season began, Moises Caicedo’s name has emerged on the shortlists of many big clubs. One of them, Manchester United, could have signed him for as little as €5 million from Independiente del Valle 18 months ago, but they passed up the opportunity.

Today the Red Devils are in the queue with many other big clubs that are keen on signing the 20-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder. Caicedo has made a name for himself in the last six months with Brighton, becoming one of Graham Potter’s key men in the middle of the park.

While he can operate slightly in the attacking role, Caicedo can double up as a defensive midfielder, and he looks like a complete midfield package. Manchester United and Arsenal registered their interest some days, and they have soon been joined by Barcelona, Liverpool and Chelsea.

All those clubs are keen on signing a new midfielder and have identified Caicedo as the right player. Liverpool, in particular, may be looking at a new midfielder amid Thiago Alcantara’s absence through injury. In addition, Naby Keita has been injury prone throughout his time at the Premier League club.

Jurgen Klopp may not want to go into the long season and then regret it midway through it when there could be a shortage of midfielders. However, as things stand, the Liverpool manager has hinted that the Reds may have concluded their transfer business, although they are capable of springing up a surprise.

Similarly, for Chelsea, after losing N’Golo Kante to a hamstring injury, Thomas Tuchel needs a new midfielder. Frenkie de Jong’s name has been on the list for quite some time, but if they cannot get the Barcelona midfielder, an approach for Caicedo would make sense.

Even Barcelona, who have set sights on Bernardo Silva as their preferred target in this window, may have to divert their attention. While the Manchester City playmaker will cost a considerable sum of money, the Catalan club’s well-documented financial woes may prevent them from signing the Portuguese international, who could end up staying put at the Etihad.

Even so, if Barcelona plan on approaching Caicedo, the 20-year-old midfielder will cost a lot of money, something the Catalans may struggle with. In any case, Brighton are not planning on selling Caicedo this summer, having sold two big-name players in Marc Cucurella and Yves Bissouma to fellow Premier League clubs.
