Everton have rejected a £40 million bid from Chelsea for Anthony Gordon, with the Toffees keen on keeping hold of the £50 million-rated youngster.
According to The Times, Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Anthony Gordon from Everton. But the Blues have seen their £40 million bid for the 21-year-old get turned down by the Toffees, who value him at £50 million.
Chelsea are emerging as one of the biggest spenders of this transfer window and are still in the market for more additions. While managing to bring in experienced players to strengthen their first-team squad, they also have a keen eye on top young talents in the country.
Having signed Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa and Omari Hutchison from Arsenal, the Blues now have their sights on Everton’s Anthony Gordon. The Toffees youngster was a shining light in an otherwise stale last season season at Goodison Park and continues to attract plenty of interest.
Everton reportedly rejected bids from Newcastle United and Tottenham for Gordon, with the latter proposing a £100 million double move for him and Richarlison. While the Brazilian has since moved to Spurs, Gordon remains at Goodison Park and is a fan favourite at the club.
Everton wants to keep Gordon for the foreseeable future as they consider him an important part of their team. However, if interest from a club like Chelsea is on the table, it may prove difficult to convince the player to stay put and reject such overtures.
Chelsea are keen on the youngster as Todd Boehly wants to build a strong foundation for the future. To that end, they lodged a bid worth £40 million for Gordon. However, it has been swiftly turned down by Everton, who value the young winger at £50 million.
Despite the setback, the Blues could return with an improved offer or also use Everton’s interest in Armando Broja as leverage and probably look to send the Albanian forward on loan as a makeweight.
Meanwhile, Everton hope to convince Gordon that Goodison Park is the best bet for his immediate future. They may point towards Ross Barkley’s faltering career as an example. The player is content with life at Everton, where he has been playing regularly since last season. But the transfer window has shown its volatility and unpredictable behaviour, and anything can happen in the next 15 days before the window closes.
