Sergino Dest uninterested in leaving Barcelona

Sergino Dest reportedly has no interest in leaving Barcelona this summer and wants to prove himself to Xavi Hernandez this season.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Sergino Dest is determined to fight for his Barcelona future. The USMNT international does not want to depart from Camp Nou in the ongoing transfer window and will look to prove his credentials to Xavi Hernandez in the 2022/23 season.

Sergino Dest has blown hot and cold since joining Barcelona from Ajax nearly two years ago. The 21-year-old had hoped to be the player to end Barcelona’s long-standing search for Dani Alves’s successor but ironically lost his spot to Alves when the Brazilian defender returned to Camp Nou in the winter transfer window.

The USMNT international has three goals and four assists in 72 outings thus far for Barcelona. But he reportedly faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou, with the Blaugrana open to cashing in on him in the ongoing transfer window. Dest does not have any shortage of suitors either, with Manchester United among the clubs that are keen on signing him.

Recent reports have claimed that the Red Devils have hatched a new plan to prise Dest away from Barcelona. And with Erik ten Hag keen on signing a top-class right-back, the young defender can be a solid solution that the Manchester United boss seeks for the right-sided defensive role.

Dest has also attracted interest from a few other clubs, including Chelsea, with Barcelona reportedly ready to listen to offers for him. That is because Dest has failed to convince Xavi Hernandez since the Barcelona legend replaced Ronald Koeman at the helm at Camp Nou last year.

While the Catalan giants do not have another recognised right-back apart from Sergi Roberto, Dest remains on the transfer list. But Barcelona will only sell the 21-year-old if a suitor presents an attractive enough offer. And judging by the team that took the field against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, Ronald Araujo is ahead of Dest in the pecking order for right-backs.

But Dest does not want to leave Barcelona and is ready to fight for his future at Camp Nou in the new campaign. The USMNT international wants to prove himself to Xavi and will hope to get sufficient opportunities to show his worth.
