Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich had reportedly considering signing Chelsea forward Kai Havertz this summer.
According to a report by German outlet SPORT1, Bayern Munich had once considered signing Chelsea forward Kai Havertz as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Poland international forced a move to Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window, leaving the reigning Bundesliga champions looking for replacements.
Bayern Munich have already made an attacking signing this summer, with Sadio Mane arriving from Liverpool. But the Bavarian giants might still want to add one more attacker to Julian Nagelsmann’s squad. That is where Kai Havertz’s name might have popped up.
The German international has been used as a false nine by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, and Bayern Munich would have hoped that Havertz could fill the gap left wide open by Lewandowski’s move to Barcelona. In two seasons with the west London club, the 23-year-old attacker has made 93 appearances, scoring 23 goals and providing 14 assists in the process.
It was in the 2021/22 season that Tuchel employed Havertz as a false nine, and he responded by scoring 11 goals from the position in 26 matches across all competitions for Chelsea. Thus, Bayern Munich’s interest makes sense.
“We heard that Bayern would have preferred to put Lewandowski at Chelsea to bring Havertz to Munich,” SPORT1 chief reporter Kerry Hau said.
Havertz currently has three years left on his current contract with Chelsea, and it looks unlikely that the Premier League giants will sanction his sale this summer. Bayern Munich have drawn out a wishlist, meanwhile, and have two other attackers on it. RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku and Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix are also on Bayern Munich’s radar.
Some reports have claimed that the German giants are preparing a move for Tottenham Hotspur attacker Harry Kane for the 2023 summer transfer window. But they might have to face competition from Real Madrid, who are also reportedly exploring the possibility of getting the England captain on board next season.

It will be interesting to see how the Bundesliga giants manage to replace Robert Lewandowski, who scored 344 goals across competitions for them. But Havertz will unlikely join Bayern Munich from Chelsea anytime soon.
