Manchester United submit €20 million bid for Guido Rodriguez

Manchester United have reportedly launched a €20 million bid to sign Argentine midfielder Guido Rodriguez from La Liga club Real Betis.

According to 90 min, Manchester United have made an official approach to Real Betis for the signing of defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez and have submitted a €20 million bid for the Argentine international. The Red Devils are desperate to add midfield reinforcements and have now drawn out a shortlist of possible signings.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been Manchester United’s top target all summer. But despite agreeing on a transfer fee with Barcelona, the Red Devils have failed to convince the Dutch international to join them. Chelsea are now believed to be leading the race to secure the midfielder’s signature, leaving Erik ten Hag and co. to look for other options.

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot’s name has recently popped up, and Manchester United are currently in discussions regarding a possible deal for the French midfielder. Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is also being courted, with some reports claiming the club are preparing a sizable bid for the Serbian international.

But Manchester United are also keeping their options open. They consider Guido Rodriguez as an alternative to Rabiot, who is in talks with the Red Devils over personal terms. However, the Premier League heavyweights are wasting no time in making their approach for the 28-year-old Argentine international, submitting a €20 million bid.

Rodriguez still has two years left on his contract with Real Betis, who signed him in the 2020 winter transfer window from Club America. The Mexican club will be paid 30 per cent of any sell-on fees for the Argentine midfielder, which is why Betis are demanding a transfer fee in the region of €25 million.

With three midfielders now on their list after missing out on de Jong, Manchester United finally seem to be getting into action after a rude awakening on the opening day of the Premier League season against Brighton & Hove Albion.

But there is still a big question mark over the ability of the three players they are currently chasing to adapt to English football. Nonetheless, Guido Rodriguez is a €20 million target for Manchester United, and it will be interesting to see if he arrives at Old Trafford anytime soon.
