Manchester United have reportedly made an enquiry for Bayern Munich and Germany winger Leroy Sane who is also a target for Liverpool.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United have enquired about the availability of Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane as Erik ten Hag seeks to bolster his attacking unit. Liverpool are also interested in signing the former Manchester City ace.

Sane has not had the smoothest of rides since returning to Germany in 2020 when he joined Bayern Munich from Manchester City. The 26-year-old has had to battle for regular game-time with the likes of Serge Gnabry, Thomas Muller and Kingsley Coman. And things are likely to get even more difficult for him this season following the arrival of Sadio Mane from Liverpool.

Sane started in 22 Bundesliga matches last season, and he has been used as a substitute in Bayern Munich’s both games in the new season in all competitions. It has led to question marks over his immediate future at the Allianz Arena, especially with this being a World Cup year and the player seeking regular game-time.

It has seemingly alerted Manchester United, who are ready to capitalise on Sane’s situation by bringing him back to England, in a potentially controversial move given his history with Manchester City. The Red Devils are on the lookout for another wide attacker this summer and have been pursuing AFC Ajax star Antony.

However, a move for the Brazilian has been jeopardised by the Dutch champions’ enormous asking price. It has forced Manchester United to consider other alternatives, with Sane emerging as an option. Given his proven pedigree in the Premier League and the fact that he is entering his prime years as a footballer, United are seemingly attracted to the German international and have enquired about him.

But, Manchester United could face competition from arch-rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Sane. It has recently been reported that Jurgen Klopp is also an admirer of the former Manchester City forward and is considering the possibility of adding him to his roster at Anfield in the ongoing transfer window as a replacement for Mane, who moved the other way earlier this summer.

Sane has played just under 40 minutes in Bayern Munich’s two official games this season. So, there could be a chance he decides to move if there is a lure of regular playing time elsewhere. However, with three years left on his contract, the Bavarians could demand a steep transfer fee for his services.
