Liverpool could make a €40 milion bid for Ismael Bennacer as Jurgen Klopp steps up the pursuit of bringing a new midfielder.

According to Calciomercatoweb, Liverpool are interested in Ismael Bennacer as Jurgen Klopp wants a new midfielder before the summer transfer window’s closure. The Reds are expected to make a €40 million bid in the coming days despite the player having a €50 million release clause in his AC Milan contract.

Liverpool may look ready for the new season after a tremendous display against Manchester City in the FA Community Shield. The team looks complete in every area on paper, although Jurgen Klopp could still look for new additions before the window shuts despite his recent comments.

The Merseyside club have brought in Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho in the ongoing window, but a new midfielder is being touted as the next target. Liverpool have not addressed the issue since Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure last summer, something they are keen to solve this summer.

AC Milan’s Ismael Bennacer is being touted as a possible target, despite reports pointing towards the club being ready to make a massive offer for Jude Bellingham. But Borussia Dortmund are uninterested in entertaining bids for the young Englishman, but they might consider offers next summer.

The Reds are expected to make a €40 million offer to prise Bennacer away from AC Milan, although the midfielder has a release clause worth €50 million attached to his deal with the Serie A giants. Manchester United have previously been interested in the Algerian international, but Liverpool could blow the chase out of the water.

AC Milan do not have the biggest of budgets and would look at market opportunities to bring in revenues. Some of their current stars are linked with other clubs, including Rafael Leao, Pierre Kalulu and Bennacer. The report claims the Serie A club could envisage at least €85 million in return for Bennacer and Kalulu.

Arsenal have also previously shown interest in Bennacer, although they might look at other targets that are cheaper than the Algerian. So, for now, Liverpool could get an open run if their interest is serious. Bennacer will add some much-needed quality while being a competitor for Fabinho in their midfield.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds make a bid worth the reported €40 million quoted in the media. There is a chance AC Milan could accept the offer, but they may try and force Liverpool to pay a bit extra than that and meet them halfway in their asking price of €50 million.
