Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen on taking Chelsea attacker Michy Batshuayi on a season-long loan deal.
According to Sky Sports, as relayed by Football Daily via Twitter, Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in taking Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi on loan in the current transfer window.
The Belgian international has endured a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge and has failed to land himself a regular starting spot. Batshuayi has primarily spent time out on loan and has so far embarked on five different loan spells across four different teams.
The 28-year-old returned to Chelsea earlier this summer following a season-long loan spell at Besiktas. Despite featuring in pre-season, his time at the Bridge is far from secure. Whether Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea amenable to letting him leave on another loan is debatable.
Wolves, for their part, are keen to try their luck and are in talks with Chelsea for the player. The Midlands outfit require a striker following Raul Jimenez’s pre-season injury. Bruno Lage’s side have been defensively solid but have struggled to score goals. Going into the 2022/23 campaign sans a recognisable marksman is risky. This is especially so given that they also let Fabio Silva join Anderlecht on loan.

Chelsea, meanwhile, do have Timo Werner still at the club. The German international has failed to live up to expectations but will have to step up and make himself count next season. With Romelu Lukaku joining Inter Milan, Armando Broja is the west London club’s only other senior specialist striker. This leaves Tuchel short of options upfront.
While Batshuayi makes up the numbers, his ability to impress at the required standard is suspect. The 28-year-old’s contract at Chelsea expires in 2023, and there is no better time than now for the Blues to sell the player.
Wolves are desperate for a striker, and this could work in Chelsea’s favour. Tuchel and co. could push to sell the player on a permanent deal, landing them a reasonable transfer fee in the process. But since Wolves are also interested in Christian Benteke and Ben Brereton Diaz, the Blues cannot afford to overplay their hand.
Batshuayi’s time at Stamford Bridge has been rather underwhelming, and a parting of the ways might be the best way forward. As things stand, the Belgian forward has a golden opportunity to rekindle his career at the Molineux. Whether it will prove to be the sixth time lucky remains to be seen.
