Chelsea considering €40 million move for Arnaut Danjuma

Chelsea are reportedly considering making a €40 million move to sign Dutch attacker Arnaut Danjuma from La Liga club Villarreal this summer.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea have joined the list of clubs showing interest in Villarreal’s 25-year-old attacker Arnaut Danjuma. The Blues are considering making a €40 million move for the Netherlands international, who moved to Spain from Bournemouth just last summer.

A PSV Eindhoven youth product, Arnaut Danjuma has previous experience in the Premier League, having played for Bournemouth in the English top-flight in the 2019/20 season. But he could not save the Cherries from suffering relegation that campaign.

Danjuma was a hit in the EFL Championship the following season, striking 15 goals in 33 league matches before Villarreal came calling. With the Yellow Submarine, Danjuma maintained his prolific form and was consistently among the goals, eventually finishing with 16 strikes across all competitions for the Spanish side.

Out of his 16 goals last season, six came in the UEFA Champions League as Unai Emery led his team to the semi-finals of Europe’s premier club competition. The 25-year-old’s form has put several European clubs on alert, including the likes of West Ham United and Liverpool.

While the Reds signed Darwin Nunez to solve their attacking woes, West Ham maintained their interest in the Dutchman, who ultimately chose against joining the Hammers. Chelsea have now entered the fray to make things more interesting in the race to sign Danjuma.

The Blues are without an out-and-out number nine, having allowed Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter Milan on a loan move. Timo Werner can take up the striking responsibilities but he has so far struggled in England and does not feature extensively in Thomas Tuchel’s plans. The German international has also been linked with a summer exit.

Chelsea have signed Raheem Sterling, who can play as a false-nine along with Kai Havertz, who was often used at the position by the German tactician last season. Therefore, the Blues’ interest in Danjuma makes sense, as they are in desperate need of a striker. Chelsea have also been linked with Red Bull Salzburg’s teenage sensation Benjamin Sesko, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United.
