Manchester United considering Hakim Ziyech move

Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech, with Erik ten Hag prioritising the move.

According to French journalist Nabil Djellit, Manchester United are considering a move for Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech, who played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax. The Dutch tactician is said to have made Ziyech a priority signing after missing out on Antony.

Hakim Ziyech joined Chelsea in the 2020 summer transfer window in a €40 million deal but has failed to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge. In two seasons with the west London club, the 29-year-old has managed just 14 goals and 10 assists while playing in 83 matches.

He started just 14 Premier League games in the 2021/22 season and is towards the bottom in Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order. Ziyech is thus looking to leave Chelsea this summer transfer window, even with three years remaining on his contract.

AC Milan were among the first clubs to show interest in Ziyech. The Rossoneri reportedly tabled a loan offer for the Moroccan international, with the player said to be keen on joining the Serie A outfit. However, the talks have not progressed well, with Chelsea reportedly eager to sell him permanently for a transfer fee worth £8.4 million.

Manchester United have now entered the fray, with Erik ten Hag said to be wanting a reunion with Ziyech. The 29-year-old playmaker had his best season for Ajax under the Dutch tactician as he scored 16 goals and assisted 17 times in the Eredivisie in the 2018/19 season.

The Chelsea playmaker also scored five times and assisted four goals in the Champions League as the Amsterdam outfit reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League that season. Ziyech’s output has only decreased since then, and the stint with Chelsea must have further affected his confidence.

However, returning to play under ten Hag, this time at Manchester United, could rejuvenate the career of the Chelsea playmaker. The Red Devils want to sign an attacker before the summer transfer window slams shut and were rebuffed in their attempt to sign Antony from Ajax before ending their interest in him. Manchester United are also getting linked with Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko.
