AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held the first round of talks for the summer transfer of 19-year-old midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

According to a report by Italian publication Corriere della Sera, as relayed by Sport Witness, Serie A champions AC Milan are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur prodigy Pape Matar Sarr in the ongoing transfer window. The two clubs have held initial talks but are yet to find a common ground.

Pape Matar Sarr joined Tottenham Hotspur last summer in a deal worth around €16 million from the French club FC Metz. He was immediately loaned back to Metz, where he played 34 matches across all competitions, also scoring a goal and assisting three more.

The 19-year-old has now returned to Tottenham but reportedly does not feature in manager Antonio Conte’s plans. Spurs have also signed midfielder Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer, which would further push Sarr down the pecking order.

AC Milan have emerged as his potential suitors, with the Serie A champions reportedly showing interest in Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga as well. The Rossoneri wish to close both the transfers as soon as possible and have initiated talks over a summer move for Sarr.

As per the report by Corriere della Sera, AC Milan have proposed an initial loan deal to sign Sarr, with a purchase option included in the contract. However, Spurs prefer that an obligation clause be inserted, which has been the main point of difference between the two clubs.

The discussions between Tottenham and the Serie A champions are still ongoing, with reports claiming that there is still room for negotiations and the two clubs hope to come to an agreement for the teenage prodigy’s transfer.

Tottenham had beaten competition from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City for the midfielder’s transfer, but the 19-year-old now looks set to leave without making a competitive appearance for the north London club. Sarr still has four years left on his contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Corriere della Sera report adds that AC Milan have other options on their list as well should they fail to sign the 19-year-old prodigy from Spurs. But Sarr has emerged as a target for priority option Carney Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea instead.
