Chelsea make approach for Kyle Walker-Peters

Chelsea have reportedly approached Southampton about the possibility of signing 25-year-old English right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

According to 90 min, Chelsea have identified Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters as an alternative if they fail in their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries. The Blues are desperate to add defensive reinforcements this summer and are keeping all options open to avoid further damage in the transfer window.

Denzel Dumfries is believed to be Chelsea’s top target for the right wing-back position. But Inter Milan are holding out for at least a €50 million transfer fee for the Dutch full-back, who was highly impressive in his debut season in Italy after arriving from PSV Eindhoven last summer.

However, the Blues have lost a couple of their top transfer targets already this summer and are not willing to repeat the same mistake twice. Raphinha and Jules Kounde were among Chelsea’s top targets in the ongoing transfer window, but the duo snubbed Thomas Tuchel’s side for Barcelona.

Thus, the west Londoners are keeping all their options open as they look to reinforce the wing-back departments. Chelsea have asked Southampton about their price tag for Kyle Walker-Peters, who has been solid since joining the Saints from Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.

The 25-year-old English full-back has made 82 appearances for Southampton across all competitions over the last couple of seasons and was rewarded for his performances with an England cap earlier this year.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton have also shown interest in the English right-back, with Southampton reportedly demanding £40 million for him. Chelsea have also been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Adama Traore, who wants to depart from the Molineux this summer.

Chelsea are also in the market for a left-back, and talks to sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marc Cucurella are believed to be in an advanced stage. Manchester City were favourites to sign the former Barcelona defender, but the Blues have swooped in to hijack the deal.

Tuchel also wants to sign at least two centre-backs before the summer transfer window slams shut. Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana has emerged as a top target, but the Foxes’ exuberant demands are stalling the deal. As for the pursuit of Walker-Peters, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can land the 25-year-old English full-back.
