Barcelona have reportedly been offered an opportunity to sign Spanish left-back Angelino from RB Leipzig this summer.

According to SPORT, Barcelona have been provided with a chance to secure the services of RB Leipzig left-back Angelino in the ongoing transfer window.

Angelino has been with RB Leipzig since January 2020, when he joined the Germans on loan before being signed permanently by them six months later. The 25-year-old has been an ever-present on the left flank for the Bundesliga giants ever since, making 98 appearances in which he has 12 goals and 28 assists.

However, with RB Leipzig bringing in David Raum this summer, Angelino has been deemed surplus to requirements and is likely to leave the Bundesliga outfit. The left-back is believed to be interested in a return to Spain and has now been offered to Barcelona, who are on the lookout for a new left-back.

Barcelona have been scouring the market for a new left-sided full-back to provide cover for Jordi Alba, who is the only natural option for the position at Xavi’s disposal. While Barcelona Atletic prospect Alejandro Balde is an alternative, the first-team manager has refrained from using him due to his lack of experience.

Hence, the Catalans are looking for a new player in the position and have identified Marcos Alonso of Chelsea as their primary target. But with the Blues making it hard for the Spaniard to join the Blaugrana, Xavi & co. have been forced to look at alternatives such as Johan Mojica, Javi Galan and even former Real Madrid star Sergio Reguilon.

Now, though, they have been offered an opportunity to sign Angelino as he is on his way out from Leipzig and is keen on returning to Spain. The 25-year-old defender has been on Barcelona’s radar in the past, but a move had been unfeasible due to the German club’s transfer fee demands for their star.

However, following Raum’s signing Leipzig are open to cashing in on Angelino and are even willing to let him leave on loan with an option to purchase him permanently next year. Several teams in Germany are interested in the former Manchester City ace. And, with Barcelona being offered his services, they too are keeping a close watch on developments over his future.

But, Alonso remains Barcelona’s primary target to strengthen the left-back position, and attempts will be made to smooth things over with Chelsea and sign the Spanish international along with his teammate Cesar Azpilicueta.
