Real Madrid have reportedly ruled out a summer move for Manchester City midfielder and Barcelona target Bernardo Silva.
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are unlikely to make a move for Manchester City midfield mainstay Bernardo Silva, who has been offered to them and their arch-rivals Barcelona this summer.
Bernardo Silva has been with Manchester City for five years, having arrived from AS Monaco in the summer of 2017. The 27-year-old has grown into a vital player for Pep Guardiola’s side, playing a critical role in the success that they have achieved during that period. It has led to the Portuguese international attracting serious interest from Barcelona.
The Catalans have been on the trail of Silva since last summer but have been unable to make a move due to their financial situation. However, with question marks lingering over the future of Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona see Silva as the ideal replacement for the Netherlands international and are ready to swoop in for him should de Jong leave.
Amidst Barcelona’s interest, Silva has been offered to them by his agent, Jorge Mendes. However, Barcelona’s arch-rivals, Real Madrid, have also been offered an opportunity to sign the Manchester City superstar.
Real Madrid strengthened their midfield unit this summer with the addition of Aurelien Tchouameni. However, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos entering the final phase of their respective careers, Carlo Ancelotti’s side will need to start laying down a succession plan for the pair in due time.
Jude Bellingham has been Real Madrid’s priority target for the role, but Silva would also be a fine alternative, given his proven pedigree, winning mentality and the experience he brings to the table. However, as per the report, Real Madrid have no interest whatsoever in signing the Manchester City midfielder this summer.
As per the report, Los Blancos have different priorities at the moment. Furthermore, they believe that Silva would be an expensive acquisition, with Manchester City likely to demand around €100 million for his services. Hence, Real Madrid have ruled out the possibility of signing him, despite being offered an opportunity.
It should leave the field clear for Barcelona to make a move for Silva. However, as iterated earlier, the Catalans’ signing the 27-year-old is contingent on de Jong leaving Camp Nou, which is looking unlikely with each passing day. So, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Silva, but a transfer to Real Madrid is seemingly off the table.
