Manchester United hold talks to sign Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United have reportedly held discussions with Red Bull Salzburg over a possible summer move for teenage attacking sensation Benjamin Sesko.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United have initiated discussions over a possible summer move for Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko. The 19-year-old sensation is a highly-rated centre-forward and is attracting interest from multiple European giants.

Manchester United have been on the lookout for a number nine signing following Edinson Cavani’s departure from Old Trafford earlier this summer. The Red Devils are also running the risk of losing Cristiano Ronaldo in the ongoing transfer window, meaning signing a centre-forward is invariably their priority.

19-year-old Slovenian attacking sensation Benjamin Sesko has now emerged as a transfer target following his eye-catching performances for Red Bull Salzburg. The youngster was promoted to the Austrian club’s first team last season, and he responded by scoring 11 goals for them across all competitions.

He has started the new season in fine fashion as well, scoring two goals and providing an assist in just two matches thus far. Sesko also impressed in the recent pre-season friendly against Liverpool, scoring a goal for the Austrian giants to lead them to a 1-0 victory.

The teenage attacking sensation’s recent exploits have put several clubs on alert, including Manchester United, who are among the first to make a formal enquiry. Chelsea are also among Sesko’s potential suitors, along with Manchester United.

However, as per the report The Athletic, Red Bull Salzburg are not willing to part ways with the youngster, who has four years remaining on his contract with the Austrian club, just yet. Their stance would only change if RB Leipzig make a formal approach for the player, as is the case for quite a few of their top players.

However, they allowed Erling Haaland to join Leipzig’s direct competitors Borussia Dortmund two years ago and could therefore be persuaded to listen to offers. Sesko has been compared to Haaland due to the similarity in the duo’s playing style. Ajax’s Antony was also on Manchester United’s transfer radar, but the Dutch giants’ asking price has put the Red Devils off.
