Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly identified Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto as an alternative to Ajax’s Antony.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United are eager to sign a wide player in the ongoing summer transfer window and have identified Ajax’s Antony as their primary target. However, the Dutch club’s demands could put a break to Manchester United’s pursuit, with the Red Devils now identifying alternatives, including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto.

Manchester United have seen attackers Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard depart from Old Trafford this summer. They are yet to make an attacking signing in the ongoing transfer window while running the risk of losing Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the club’s top scorer last season.

While Manchester United have benefitted from Anthony Martial’s return to form, as he scored three goals in four pre-season matches, they might still need to sign a new attacker before the transfer window slams shut. Brazilian winger Antony has been on their radar for quite some time now, but negotiations with Ajax have not progressed as hoped.

The Red Devils have already signed Argentine central defender Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, who was the Dutch club’s Player of the Year for the 2021/22 campaign. The Eredivisie champions are not keen on parting ways with another one of their top players and have reportedly slapped a hefty price tag on the Brazilian international.

Manchester United, with no Champions League football to offer, are not in a position to spend heavily on just one position and are now exploring alternatives. And they have identified three players in the process: AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Pedro Neto.

As far as Neto is concerned, the 22-year-old Portuguese international recently signed a contract extension with Wolves, extending his stay with the Premier League club until 2027. But he could be available for the right price should Manchester United decide to pursue him seriously.

The 22-year-old is versatile enough to play across the frontline, which would come in handy for Erik ten Hag if the potential move does materialize. Neto has decent Premier League experience under his belt too, having played 73 matches in the English top flight. Neto was on Manchester United’s radar last summer as well, but Wolves managed to keep hold of him.

I’m sure he’s flattered that Man U are interested in him, but why would he consider a move there when there are clubs like Man C, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal probably interested in him as well. Wouldn’t be a good career move to go to a 5th rate club ?
