Leeds United have tabled a €2 million offer to sign Mergim Berisha, but Fenerbahce are seeking €5 million for the striker.

According to Turkish publication Yenisafak, Premier League side Leeds United have made a bid of €2 million for Fenerbahce striker Mergim Berisha in the summer transfer window.

The Yorkshire giants are going through a summer overhaul that has seen them bring in several new faces. The approach is to be expected given the season they just had and the loss of stalwarts Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha earlier in the summer.

The duo’s exit leaves Jesse Marsch with a lot of work to do, and the manager, to his credit, has gone about landing some exciting young prospects. One position that he is yet to reinforce is upfront.

Leeds found goals hard to come by in the 2021/22 season. They scored more goals than just four other teams in the English top flight, three of whom got relegated. Given Patrick Bamford’s injury troubles and Rodrigo Moreno’s profligacy in front of goal, the Whitesmust add to their frontline.

This is where Berisha comes in. A product of the Red Bull Salzburg Academy, the 24-year-old played under Marsch, scoring 23 goals in 52 games under the new Leeds boss.

The former German youth international has the raw talent to develop into a reliable goalscorer but has struggled to develop as a player at Fenerbahce. A reunion with his former boss at Elland Road could be the catalyst for a rekindling of his abilities. To that end, Leeds United have now tabled an offer of €2 million to lure him to Yorkshire.

Fenerbahce are open to a sale but are seeking €5 million for Berisha this summer. While it is considerably more than what Leeds have offered so far, it could prove to be a snip, in the long run, should he rediscover his form while at Salzburg.

Berisha’s move to Turkey has so far proven to be underwhelming. He has struggled to find the back of the net and could do with a fresh challenge elsewhere. A move to Elland Road will give him more exposure as a player while also allowing him to spearhead Marsch’s Leeds rebuild.

With Fenerbahce having made their demands clear, the ball is now in Leeds’ court. Whether they will up their offer to bring in the 24-year-old this summer remains to be seen.
