West Ham United are reportedly among the clubs keeping tabs on Leicester City left-back Luke Thomas this summer.

According to The Guardian, West Ham United are in the market for a new left-sided midfielder. Coach David Moyes has already identified a host of candidates, which includes Luke Thomas of Leicester City. Although the 21-year-old Englishman is majorly a left-back by trade, his ability to operate as a wing-back makes him a desirable option for the Hammers.

Thomas has been a part of the Leicester City setup since 2008, having joined the Premier League club at the age of just seven. He has since enjoyed steady growth, breaking his way to the top before gaining promotion to the senior side in the summer of 2020.

Thomas racked up almost 1,000 minutes of Premier League football during the 2020/21 campaign, but he became an even more important figure for Leicester City last season, featuring in 22 league matches. During his rapid rise to prominence, the has established himself as a top-notch full-back who has what it takes to become one of the best in England.

Indeed, Thomas has showcased brilliant athleticism, pace and technical prowess that allows him to cover the entirety of the left flank. As such, the 21-year-old is capable of operating even as a left midfielder, which, in turn, has put West Ham United on alert.

The Hammers are currently looking for a new option on the left flank as David Moyes cannot turn to a reliable alternative for Aaron Cresswell. Arthur Masuaku has been the desired backup, but his performances have been far from impressive, thus forcing Moyes to look into the market for other options.

Eintracht Frankfurt superstar Filip Kostic remains the transfer priority for West Ham, with the Londoners even submitting a bid for the Serbian international recently. But luring the former HSV starlet could be tricky, as the player has the opportunity to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.

As such, Luke Thomas could prove to be an interesting alternative. The English left-back is young and has the potential to become an asset for West Ham in the years to come. The 21-year-old is versatile enough to not only serve as a backup for Cresswell but also compete with the wide attackers, thus making him an ideal target for the club.

However, it remains unclear whether Leicester City would want to sell their prized defensive asset to West Ham this summer, knowing the player has a bright future ahead of him.
