Chelsea, Tottenham submit tentative enquiries for Allan Saint-Maximin

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping close tabs on the future of Allan Saint-Maximin, valued at £40 million by Newcastle United.

A recent report from The Athletic has offered an update on the future of Allan Saint-Maximin. The Newcastle United forward has garnered attention from some of the top teams in England, with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea launching tentative inquiries lately.

The two Premier League giants are exploring the possibility of signing the Frenchman ahead of the new season as they look to shore up their attacking options. Newcastle, though, are in no mood of parting ways with their prized attacker and value him at around £40 million to ward off Chelsea and Tottenham.

Formerly of AS Monaco, Saint-Maximin has been the beating heart of the Newcastle United frontline since joining the club in 2019. During his ongoing three-year spell at the club, the attacker has racked up almost 100 competitive appearances for the Magpies, scoring 12 goals while providing 16 assists.

In addition to his productivity, the exploding forward has offered dynamism and trickery in the final third. Saint-Maximin has even established himself as one of the finest dribblers in Europe, with a host of clubs now seeking his services ahead of the new season.

Chelsea are among the clubs keeping close tabs on the Frenchman as they look to add more attacking reinforcements amid the uncertainty over the future of some of their existing stars. Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech was linked with a move to AC Milan earlier in the month, while Christian Pulisic has failed to impress at Stamford Bridge.

Although Chelsea have managed to bring in Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling, coach Thomas Tuchel could certainly welcome the addition of another top-class attacker in Newcastle United man Allan Saint-Maximin.

Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, are in the market for attacking reinforcements as well, as part of their plans to add more competition in the final third. The Lilywhites have managed to bring in Ivan Perisic and Richarlison, but the former is set to operate as a wing-back.

With Steven Bergwijn leaving Tottenham to join Ajax, Antonio Conte is pushing for a star attacker like Saint-Maximin, who can offer unpredictability in the final third and gel well with players such as Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

However, luring the Frenchman away from Newcastle is going to be a tricky task for both Chelsea and Tottenham. The Magpies value the attacker at around £40 million, which should be enough to put off his suitors, although this could indeed be the make-or-break season for Saint-Maximin as he looks to create a legacy at St. James’ Park.
