Aston Villa have made their move for highly-rated PSV Eindhoven star Ibrahim Sangare.
According to Football Insider, Premier League side Aston Villa have enquired about the possibility of signing PSV Eindhoven ace Ibrahim Sangare in the 2022 summer transfer window.
The Ivory Coast international initially came through the ranks in his home country before moving to Europe with Toulouse. He survived his baptism of fire in the French league and earned himself a move to Eindhoven in 2020.
Sangare has since steadily established himself as a regular for the Eredivisie giants, making 87 appearances, scoring five goals and assisting six more in the process. A defensive midfielder, the 24-year-old can also do a job as a central midfielder connecting the defence to the attack.
A physically capable athlete who is an excellent reader of the game, Sangare is also a beast in the air and is capable of winning aerial balls more often than not. Add to it his good dribbling skills, and there are all the ingredients for him to be considered a dynamic presence in the middle of the pitch, which has attracted the attention of Aston Villa.
PSV value the Ivorian at £20 million, a measly amount given his potential. Aston Villa have made some stellar signings this summer and landing Sangare would be the cherry on top.
The Midlands side’s defence is not the best and was brutally exposed against Manchester City on the final day of the 2021/22 Premier League season. Having an enforcer such as Sangare, acting as a shield for the backline will help Villa hold their own in the middle of the park.
A move to Villa Park will also see Sangare play under Steven Gerrard, one of the finest midfielders of his generation. The Liverpool legend knows a trick or two of how to become a leading midfielder and could pass on that knowledge to Sangare.
Deploying the 24-year-old alongside the energetic John McGinn will give the likes of Philippe Coutinho the freedom to focus more on creating goals rather than tracking back. This should offer Villa more balance and turn them into a formidable side in the upcoming season.
Aston Villa will, however, not have an easy run on landing the 24-year-old, who is also gathering interest from fellow Premier League sides Leicester City and Manchester United. Sangare still has three years left on his deal at PSV, and the Dutch side hold the aces for now when it comes to negotiations.
