Real Madrid star Rodrygo reportedly turned down offers from the Premier League before agreeing on a renewal with Los Blancos.

According to Defensa Central, Rodrygo Goes reportedly rejected overtures from the Premier League before he agreed to sign a new deal with Real Madrid this summer.

Rodrygo Goes has been with Real Madrid since 2019, when he arrived from Santos. The 21-year-old has been one of the brightest sparks in the Merengues’ side, even though regular game-time has not been forthcoming due to the intense competition for places. To date, he has made 108 appearances for Madrid, scoring 18 goals and setting up 21 more.

Rodrygo was crucial to Real Madrid’s success last season as he scored crucial goals in their Champions League-winning campaign and La Liga. As a reward for his performances, the reigning Spanish and European champions have handed him a new contract.

While an official announcement has not been made yet, Rodrygo has already confirmed that he will be penning a new deal with Real Madrid. And as per the report, the 21-year-old had offers from the Premier League but made it clear to his agent that he has no intentions of listening to any other proposals as he has his heart set on continuing at Real Madrid.

Rodrygo’s existing contract runs until the summer of 2025. But as per the terms of the new deal agreed, the Brazilian international will be extending his contract by three more years until 2028. On top of that, the forward will also see an increase in his wages, with Rodrygo set to pocket around €6-7 million per year.

With Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic having left and the likes of Mariano Diaz and Marco Asensio also likely to move on, there is a good chance that Rodrygo will receive more regular game-time as part of Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team setup at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Having pretty much wrapped up their transfer business, the La Liga champions are focusing on tying down key members of the team to new contracts. Rodrygo is not the only one set to be rewarded with a new deal, with his compatriots Vinicius Junior and Eder Militao also set for extensions.
