Manchester United whizkid Nathan Bishop is reportedly set to join English minnows Wycombe Wanderers ahead of the new season.

According to Football Insider, Wycombe Wanderers have reached an agreement with Nathan Bishop ahead of the new season. The Manchester United prospect is set to join the League One outfit on a season-long loan deal soon after he comes back from Manchester United’s pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia.

Formerly of the Southend youth academy, Bishop has been a part of the Manchester United setup since early 2020. Although the youngster is yet to make a single competitive appearance for the Red Devils, he had previously made a mark at Mansfield Town and Southend United.

The 22-year-old even has a record of featuring in a combined total of almost 80 matches during his time in League One and League Two. And with the goalkeeping prospect unlikely to get any recognition at Manchester United anytime soon, he has decided to join Wycombe Wanderers in an attempt to make another impression.

The League One outfit are currently shallow in the goalkeeping department following the exit of David Stockdale and Adam Przybek earlier in the summer. They are left without a reliable option in between the sticks and that is where Nathan Bishop could turn out to be a handy option for coach Gareth Ainsworth.

As for Manchester United, they are unlikely to be fazed by the exit of Bishop. The 22-year-old lacks experience at the highest level of football and is clearly not ready to make the jump to the senior level. A loan move away to Wycombe could help him gain some more experience, although the English minnows would have ideally wanted the goalkeeper to play in the Championship, rather than League One.

Nevertheless, the loan move appears to be a logical one even though Manchester United’s problems in the goalkeeping department persist. With Dean Henderson joining Nottingham Forest, the Red Devils are left without any reliable alternative for David de Gea next season.

Manchester United had expressed the desire to former Lazio shot-stopper Thomas Strakosha earlier in the summer, but it Brentford have beaten them to the chase. Hence, it will be interesting to see what steps Manchester United take in order to find a reliable understudy for de Gea, for the upcoming 2022/23 campaign.
