Liverpool have reportedly agreed a £4 million deal with Scottish giants Rangers to sell forgotten defender Ben Davies this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool and Rangers have reached an agreement for the transfer of English defender Ben Davies in a deal worth £4 million in the ongoing summer window.

Ben Davies joined Liverpool in the January transfer window of 2021 as Jurgen Klopp’s side brought him in to address an injury crisis in the centre-back department. The German tactician admitted at the time that he did not know the defender all too well and as it turned out, the 26-year-old was never used by the Reds.

Indeed, Davies did not make a single appearance for Liverpool after arriving and was shipped out on loan to Sheffield United last season. The Englishman played only 21 times for the Blades during the 2021/22 campaign. Having returned to Liverpool, he is now set to bring an end to his time at Anfield and relaunch his career elsewhere.

Davies was courting plenty of interest from the EFL Championship, but Scottish giants Rangers have swooped in and reached an agreement to capture the English defender’s signing.

The Scottish heavyweights, who finished as the runners-up in the UEFA Europa League last season, were in desperate need of a new defender after seeing Calvin Bassey move to Ajax. And they have acted quickly to close the deal for Davies to reinforce their backline.

As per the report, Liverpool and Rangers shook hands on a deal worth more than £3 million in guaranteed payments. Including add-ons, the total value of the operation goes up to around £4 million.

It turns out to be a handsome profit for Liverpool. The Reds had paid only £500,000 to Preston North End for his signing, which they even recouped by the way of loan fee from Sheffield United last year. Preston had inserted a 20% sell-on clause in the deal with Liverpool, which means they will receive part of the payment that Liverpool will pocket from Rangers.

Having endured a rough time with fitness problems and lack of game-time over the past 18 months, Davies will now be looking forward to getting his career back on track at the Ibrox.
