Barcelona reach agreement to sign Robert Lewandowski

Barcelona and Bayern Munich have reportedly agreed to a €50 million deal for the transfer of Robert Lewandowski this summer.

According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the impasse between Barcelona and Bayern Munich has finally ended, with the two clubs reaching an agreement over the transfer of Robert Lewandowski. The Blaugrana will shell out a base fee worth €45 million, with Bayern liable to receive €5 million in add-ons.

The Robert Lewandowski transfer saga has dragged on for months, and it seemed as if the standoff between the player and his parent club might never end due to the Bundesliga champions’ stubborn public stance. At the same time, Bayern and Barcelona were at an impasse due to the former’s reluctance to part ways with the Polish striker and the asking price.

But Lewandowski, who has a brilliant tally of 344 goals and 72 assists in 374 appearances for Bayern Munich, has been adamant that his time at the Allianz Arena was over. And while the 33-year-old, being a model professional, turned up for pre-season training, he has been keen on moving to Barcelona for a long time.

But Bayern Munich rejected multiple bids from Barcelona, with the Blaugrana having to wait until the activation of the economic levers to mount a more serious pursuit of Lewandowski. And while the Catalan giants are pegged back by Financial Fair Play issues, they seem to have the purchasing power to submit lofty bids for their priority targets.

That has already been witnessed with Barcelona’s acquisition of Raphinha. And Lewandowski will likely be the latest big-money arrive at Camp Nou, especially after recent reports suggested that Bayern Munich might finally be willing to negotiate with Barcelona over a move for the Pole.

The two clubs have now agreed to a €50 million package for Lewandowski’s transfer, with Barcelona shelling out a base fee worth €45 million. In addition, Bayern Munich will be liable to receive €5 million in add-ons. And according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Lewandowski will arrive in Barcelona for his medical this weekend.

The Catalan giants are finally set to sign a prolific forward to fill Lionel Messi’s void at Camp Nou. Lewandowski will sign a three-year contract that will last until June 30, 2025, after completing the €50 million move from Bayern Munich, with Barcelona having the option to add another year to his deal.
