The Premier League could become Edin Dzeko’s next destination, with Everton showing an interest in the veteran Bosnian striker.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Edin Dzeko’s future at Inter Milan is at risk, with a move back to the Premier League seemingly on the cards. Everton are one of the clubs reportedly interested, with Leicester City and Wolves also keen on the veteran striker.
Edin Dzeko could be back in the Premier League after leaving Manchester City in 2015. The Bosnian striker enjoyed a solid stint after joining AS Roma, before moving to Inter Milan in 2021. The centre-forward scored 17 goals from 49 appearances last season in his debut campaign with the Nerazzurri.
Inter Milan signed the veteran striker to replace Romelu Lukaku, although the Belgian’s quickfire return to San Siro has put Dzeko’s future at risk. Simone Inzaghi already has Lautaro Martinez leading the line, and with the former Chelsea star re-joining on loan, there’s no room for Dzeko in the side.
Moreover, Inter are keen on Paulo Dybala, who Juventus released at the end of his contract. If the Argentine arrives, there’s a formidable forward line at Inzaghi’s disposal, rendering Dzeko as surplus to requirements. The former Manchester City has a few offers from Italy, where he remains comfortable, but Inter will not sell him to a direct rival, such as Juventus.
Hence, the report insists a move back to the Premier League might be on the cards. There are three clubs reportedly interested in the 36-year-old, with Everton, Wolves, and Leicester City competing for Dzeko’s signing. The Toffees, in particular, could look for a move to improve their fortunes in the short term.
Everton have lost top scorer Richarlison to Tottenham in a £60 million deal and will have to bring in a quality replacement. There have been names from relegated sides being suggested, such as Emmanuel Dennis, but the Toffees may want someone with a more robust physical profile.
Mohamed Bayo had been considered, but he has since joined Lille from Clermont Foot. Moreover, looking at the financial capacity of the Toffees, a short-term move for Dzeko could make plenty of sense. Frank Lampard has the challenging task to repair things at Goodison Park after a terrible season, which almost led to Everton getting relegated.
Dzeko could be available for a reasonable fee from Inter and represents a short-term fix for any club taking him on. Given his performances and goalscoring numbers have not diminished despite his advancing age, the Bosnian would be an excellent option to sort immediate problems at any club, more so at Everton.
