Bologna interested in Borja Mayoral

Real Madrid forward Borja Mayoral has reportedly emerged on the radar of Serie A club Bologna over a move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Borja Mayoral is the subject of interest from Bologna over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish forward could leave Real Madrid on a permanent deal ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Borja Mayoral has been with Real Madrid since joining them as a ten-year-old from Madrid-based Agrupacion Deportiva Parla in 2007. But the 25-year-old has struggled to stamp his authority at the first-team level following his senior debut in October 2015.

Seven years after earning his first-team bow, Mayoral is yet to settle down at the first-team level in club football and has embarked on four loan spells. The Spanish forward’s most fruitful stint came with Levante between 2018 and 2020, where he featured regularly and progressed considerably.

A hit-and-miss stint with AS Roma prematurely ended earlier this year, but the Real Madrid striker rediscovered his form and confidence after moving to Getafe for the second half of the 2021/22 season. Mayoral turned out 18 times for Getafe, scoring six goals before returning to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

But the Spaniard has no future at Real Madrid, with Los Blancos ready to sell him for €10 million. However, Mayoral has no shortage of suitors, with several clubs in and outside Spain showing interest in securing his services this summer, either on loan or a permanent deal.

Mayoral has captured the attention of La Liga outfits like Celta Vigo and Getafe. At the same time, he has also popped up on the radar of newly-promoted Serie A club Monza, who might face stiff competition from fellow Italian club Bologna.

The interest from Bologna stems from the uncertainties surrounding Marko Arnautovic, with the Austrian striker a target for Serie A giants Juventus. But the report does not mention whether the Red and Blues want Mayoral on loan or a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s stance is surprising, considering they are yet to replace Luka Jovic, who joined Serie A club Fiorentina earlier this week. It will be interesting to see what they do if they cash in on Mayoral, with Mariano Diaz facing an uncertain future.
