West Ham United are reportedly in advanced talks with US Sassuolo over the €40 million signing of Gianluca Scamacca this summer.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, West Ham United have made huge strides in the pursuit of Gianluca Scamacca. The US Sassuolo forward has become one of the most sought-after young attackers in Europe this summer and was heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Pedulla suggests PSG are set to face defeat in the pursuit of Scamacca. It is West Ham who are ahead in the race after holding advanced talks with Sassuolo. The Premier League outfit have already tabled an official offer of around €40 million, plus an additional €7 million in add-ons.

Sassuolo have accepted the offer, and it is only a matter of time before the deal is officiated. The addition of Scamacca could go a long way in resolving one of the most glaring issues at West Ham, which has been present for over the past couple of years.

Indeed, West Ham have been on the hunt for a new striker for 18 months, in their quest to add a reliable alternative for Michail Antonio up top. The Hammers have recently been linked with a move for Chelsea starlet Armando Broja, but it appears they are all set to secure the deal to sign Scamacca, who is regarded as one of the most talented strikers in Italy.

Formerly of Genoa, the 23-year-old has become hugely successful since his return to Sassuolo. The Italian international racked up as many as 16 goals in just 36 league appearances this past season, impressing the onlookers with his productivity, athleticism and overall strong presence up top.

Such qualities have not gone unnoticed by West Ham, who are aware of Scamacca’s abilities and want to make him their top striker in the coming season. The Italian international’s strong presence in the final third, coupled with his ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities could go a long way in adding a new dimension to West Ham’s attacking play.

Perhaps more importantly, West Ham do not have many alternatives available in the market. There is a possibility Broja might remain at Stamford Bridge, whereas Arnaut Danjuma has no desire to sign for the Hammers, as he is holding out for a move to a bigger club this summer. So signing Scamacca in a €40 million deal could be a masterstroke from David Moyes.
