Marco Asensio ready to stay at Real Madrid

Marco Asensio is reportedly ready to stay at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window amid links with Liverpool and AC Milan.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Marco Asensio is warming up to the idea of staying at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window. The Spanish forward features on the radars of several clubs across Europe, including AC Milan, Liverpool, and Newcastle United.

Marco Asensio is in a confusing situation ahead of the 2022/23 season. The 26-year-old enjoyed his most productive campaign thus far with Real Madrid in 2021/22, but he could not establish himself as the undisputed first-choice right-winger in Carlo Ancelotti’s team, with Rodrygo Goes usurping him in the latter stages of the term.

Only Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr. found the back of the net more often than the Spaniard, who scored 12 goals in 42 appearances. But after failing to nail down a spot as a regular in Ancelotti’s team, Asensio has been contemplating leaving Real Madrid, with AC Milan, Liverpool, and Newcastle United vying for his signature.

The interest from AC Milan stems from Stefano Pioli’s desire to add more quality to his squad. The right-wing berth remains a weakness for the reigning Serie A champions, with Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers blowing hot and cold last season. Asensio has thus emerged as a viable target for AC Milan, who seemed to be the favourites to sign him at one point.

As for Liverpool, the Reds recently asserted they are not interested in Asensio. But according to AS, the Real Madrid forward features on Liverpool’s radar this summer. But the player’s situation will unlikely improve at Anfield, considering Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Nunez should be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United recently submitted an offer to sign Asensio as they continue to remodel the first-team squad under the watchful eye of Eddie Howe. But the 26-year-old is ready to stay at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window after realising that the Merengues have not identified a replacement for Bale.

With Real Madrid seemingly done with their incoming business in the summer transfer window, Asensio can focus on battling Rodrygo for the right-wing berth in the 2022/23 season. But it will be interesting to see if his head turns if a suitor tables a bid to sign him in the coming days.
