Chelsea are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Bayern Munich attacker Serge Gnabry, who faces an uncertain future in Bavaria.
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea have expressed interest in Serge Gnabry. The Premier League giants are aware of the winger’s uncertain future at Bayern Munich, with many expecting him to leave the club in the summer. As such, Chelsea have made “tentative” enquires, exploring the possibility to snap up the German international in this transfer window.
Highly regarded as one of the best wingers in the Bundesliga, Gnabry has established himself as a top-quality forward during his time at Bayern Munich. In 171 competitive appearances, he has racked up 64 goals while chipping in with 40 assists, essentially making him one of the most productive forward at Bayern.
However, Gnabry has not been rewarded for his performances, with the Bavarians yet to grant his wish to extend the contract with a significant salary raise. The German Rekordmeister believe they may overpay the winger and have shown no intention to hand him a new deal, thus raising the possibility of a move away from Allianz Arena.
Gnabry has had no shortage of suitors either. Due to his impressive track record at Bayern Munich, the forward has become a subject of interest for many clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid reportedly considering a €50 million bid for the German international.
It appears Chelsea have joined the race as well, as they look to shore up their ranks in the wide attacking department. The Blues are currently on the verge of signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, with the Englishman poised for a medical at Stamford Bridge.
But Thomas Tuchel is keen on adding one more option up top. The German tactician was interested in a reunion with Ousmane Dembele earlier in the summer, but it seems the Frenchman is currently on the verge of signing a new contract with Barcelona. It has compelled Chelsea to turn their attention to Gnabry, who offers more experience and has appeared more consistent with his performances in recent years.
However, despite Chelsea’s interest in signing Gnabry this summer, the player has no desire to join the Blues due to his former association with Arsenal. The Bayern Munich star had played for the Gunners during the early stages of his career and shares a close bond with the club. As such, he is not interested in joining their direct London rivals.
