La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly turned their attention towards Alexander Isak to replace Luka Jovic following the Serb’s move to Fiorentina.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alexander Isak is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Merengues could approach their fellow La Liga club over a potential deal, with La Real likely to demand between €50 million and €60 million for the Swede.
Alexander Isak has long been regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe, with people in his homeland comparing him to Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his time at AIK. However, the Swedish international endured an underwhelming stint with Borussia Dortmund before resurrecting his stuttering career at Real Sociedad.
While the 22-year-old is not a finished article yet, his tally of 43 goals and eight assists in 128 appearances across all competitions for Real Sociedad does not inspire much confidence. But Isak’s performances since joining La Real have attracted many clubs, with La Liga champions Real Madrid being one of his prospective suitors.
The reigning La Liga champions have lost Luka Jovic in the summer transfer window, with the Serbian international completing a free transfer to Fiorentina. Mariano Diaz could soon follow Jovic out of the exit door at the Santiago Bernabeu, thus compelling Real Madrid to consider signing a striker.
While Karim Benzema has been in the form of his life in the last four years and will likely win the Ballon d’Or this year, he is approaching the final phase of his career. Real Madrid will thus need to lay down a succession plan for the veteran French striker, bringing Isak into the picture.
The 22-year-old will initially play second-fiddle to Benzema, probably even sharing game-time with Borja Mayoral. And while his numbers do not justify a pursuit from Real Madrid, learning from a legendary figure like Benzema might help Isak achieve the prophecy of being the “next Zlatan Ibrahimovic”.
But Real Sociedad will demand between €50 million and €60 million to part ways with Isak in the summer transfer window, which might complicate matters for Real Madrid. However, with the two La Liga clubs in advanced talks over a move for Takefusa Kubo, we might not have heard the last of the transfer saga involving Isak, even though certain reports refute such claims.
