Spanish second division side CD Tenerife are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid starlet Juanmi Latasa to spearhead their attack.

According to journalist Manoj Daswani, Real Madrid starlet Juanmi Latasa has emerged as a transfer target for La Liga 2 club CD Tenerife in the ongoing transfer window.

Latasa has been on the books at Real Madrid since 2016, when he joined from the Union Adarve academy. Having had steady progress through the youth ranks at La Fabrica, he has become a regular in the club’s Castilla team, racking up 50 appearances in which he has netted 18 goals and set up one more.

Latasa made his first-team debut for Real Madrid last season, coming on as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Cadiz in May 2022. The 21-year-old prospect, who has two goals in four matches for the Spanish Under-20 national team, is held in high regard within Real Madrid.

To that end, there has been talk of a first-team promotion for Latasa as a backup for Karim Benzema now that Luka Jovic has joined Fiorentina and Mariano Diaz is expected to be sold as well. However, with Borja Mayoral still in the picture, there is no guarantee that Latasa will get meaningful game-time with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

And Tenerife are planning to exploit the situation by attempting to lure Latasa to the club this summer. The second-division club are in the market for attacking reinforcements and have identified the 21-year-old Real Madrid prospect as their main target.

The report states that Tenerife are hopeful of completing the deal even if it can be complicated and, as a result, have decided to press pause on their pursuit of other targets as long as they believe a move for Latasa can be viable.

It is not mentioned if Tenerife want to sign him permanently or on loan, although if it was a temporary move, Real Madrid might be open to such a move. Especially if Borja Mayoral ends up staying, Los Blancos might consider sending Latasa out on loan to have him experience regular first-team football rather than have him play with Castilla again.

It will be interesting to see if Tenerife are successful in signing Latasa, whose contract with Real Madrid runs until 2024.
