Juventus considering swoop for Arsenal outcast Lucas Torreira

Juventus are reportedly considering making a move for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira, who is set to leave the Gunners this summer.

According to Calciomercato.it, out-of-favour Arsenal star Lucas Torreira has emerged as a potential transfer target for Serie A giants Juventus in the ongoing transfer window.

Torreira joined Arsenal from Italian club Sampdoria and soon became a regular in the side. However, following the appointment of Mikel Arteta as manager, the 26-year-old’s game-time took a hit, and he left the Gunners to join Atletico Madrid on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.

The loan stint in Spain was nothing short of a disaster, but Torreira enjoyed better fortunes at Fiorentina, where he spent the 2021/22 campaign. The Viola had an opportunity to sign the Uruguayan international on a permanent transfer, but tried to negotiate a lower fee than the one agreed upon earlier, leading to the move collapsing.

Now back at Arsenal, Torreira has no future at the Emirates and is looking for a new club. A return to Italy has been touted, with the likes of AS Roma and Lazio interested in the 26-year-old. Now, Juventus have also emerged as a possible destination for the Arsenal ace.

Juventus have bolstered their midfield already this summer with the Bosman signing of Paul Pogba after his contract with Manchester United. Having added Denis Zakaria in January as well, the Turin giants have a packed midfield unit with the likes of Weston McKennie, Manuel Locatelli, Arthur Melo and Adrien Rabiot all options for the manager, along with youngsters Fabio Miretti and Nicolo Fagioli.

However, among these players, Rabiot and Arthur have been linked with exits from the Allianz Stadium, while Juventus will also look to offload Aaron Ramsey permanently. So, there could be room for another addition in the centre of the park. And manager Massimiliano Allegri wishes to add an enforcer so that he can free Pogba from any shackles and get the best out of the Frenchman.

It has led to links with Torreira, with Juventus considering the Arsenal outcast as a possible option, although there is nothing concrete at this point. Considering his contract expires in 2023, the Uruguayan ace will likely be available for as little as €10 million, making him an enticing option for Allegri and Juve.

However, at the moment, they have other priority targets like Leandro Paredes of PSG and Chelsea’s Jorginho, while Juventus are also working to secure a replacement for Matthijs de Ligt, who is ready to snub Chelsea and join Bayern Munich. So, it remains to be seen if the Italian giants go after Torreira this summer.
