PSG, Juventus set sights on Ferland Mendy

Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are reportedly keen on signing Ferland Mendy, as the French left-back faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid.

According to two separate reports by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Ferland Mendy has several admirers in Europe as he faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid. Ligue 1 champions PSG and Serie A giants Juventus are keen on securing the services of the French defender in the summer transfer window.

Ferland Mendy was an instant hit at Real Madrid upon arriving from Lyon in July 2019. The 27-year-old took no time to usurp Marcelo and become the first-choice left-back for Real Madrid. Since then, he has been a regular for Los Blancos, amassing over 100 appearances while chipping in with five goals and nine assists.

The 27-year-old has overcome fitness issues to prove his credentials at Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants are open to cashing in on him in the summer transfer window following Antonio Rudiger’s arrival in a Bosman move. While Rudiger will feature as a centre-back, Carlo Ancelotti will utilise David Alaba as a left-back, leaving Mendy in the lurch.

But Mendy does not have a shortage of suitors, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe keen on securing his services in the summer transfer window. And according to Defensa Central, Serie A giants Juventus and Ligue 1 champions PSG want to prise him away from Real Madrid ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The interest from Juventus is understandable, considering Alex Sandro’s performance levels have dropped dramatically in the last couple of seasons. In addition, Luca Pellegrini faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Stadium amid his links with Fulham and West Ham United. Mendy has thus emerged as a viable target for the Serie A giants.

On the other hand, it is unclear why PSG might want to sign the Real Madrid full-back after completing a permanent move for Nuno Mendes. While Juan Bernat has blown hot and cold, Mendes is the long-term solution in the left-back slot, meaning Mendy will, at best, share game-time with the Portuguese international if he joins PSG.

Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will demand around €50 million to sell Mendy in the summer transfer window. While PSG might be able to afford the French defender, Juventus’s poor financial situation might prompt them to end their interest if Real Madrid’s €50 million demands are unwavering.
