Serie A champions AC Milan have reportedly rekindled their interest in Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Japhet Tanganga.

According to Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan are back in the market for out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Japhet Tanganga. The Serie A champions had been keen to sign the English defender on loan in the January transfer window, but the move did not materialise.

Tanganga is a Tottenham youth product and rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut for the north London club in the 2019/20 season. But the defender has not been able to cement a starting spot, spending most of his time on the bench since then. In three seasons, the 23-year-old has managed just 43 appearances for the Tottenham first team

Tanganga has been deemed surplus to requirements at the club and does not feature in Antonio Conte’s plans for the upcoming season. The English defender is eager to play regularly, and with Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies all ahead of him in the pecking order, chances will be hard to come by for him.

Spurs are also in the market for central defensive reinforcements, which means they could allow Tanganga to leave this summer if the right bid arrives. Atletico Madrid are among the teams exploring the possibility of signing the young defender this summer, along with Serie A giants in Inter Milan, Napoli, AC Milan and Juventus.

AC Milan have reportedly made contacts with the Tottenham defender’s entourage over a move in the summer transfer window. Gianluca Di Marzio has not revealed details of Tottenham’s asking price, with Transfermarkt rating him at €12 million.

The Rossoneri won the Serie A title last season, trumping Inter Milan by a point. AC Milan are eager to continue challenging for the league title and are trying to strengthen multiple positions. Club Brugge midfielder Charles De Ketelaere and Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech are reportedly their top targets.

AC Milan are also in talks to sign Renato Sanches from Lille but face competition from Paris Saint-Germain for the Portuguese’s signature. As for the pursuit of Tanganga, it will be interesting to see if AC Milan can sign the Tottenham defender after failing to bring him to San Siro in January.
