Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Christian Eriksen over a summer move.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Manchester United have verbally agreed on terms with Denmark playmaker Christian Eriksen. The Red Devils will sign the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder on a three-year deal.

Eriksen has been a free agent since his six-month contract with Brentford expired on June 30. The Bees were among the clubs interested in getting the 30-year-old playmaker on board, along with Tottenham Hotspur, but Manchester United seem to have won the race for Eriksen’s signature.

The player missed more than six months of football after suffering a cardiac arrest during UEFA Euro 2020. Eriksen’s contract with Inter was terminated in December due to Serie A regulations before Brentford signed him on a six-month deal in the 2022 January transfer window.

Eriksen impressed on his return to the Premier League, scoring once and assisting four goals as Brentford finished the season strongly to secure another year in the English top-flight. The 30-yer-old’s spell attracted attention from multiple clubs, including Manchester United and his former side Tottenham.

There were reports that Eriksen prefers to stay in London, ruling out Manchester United from a possible transfer. However, he has now verbally agreed to join the club, with the move now subject to medical and the finalisation of personal terms.

Eriksen comes with a rich Premier League experience under his belt, having represented Spurs between 2013 and 2020. In all, the Denmark international has made 237 appearances in the English top-flight, scoring 52 times and assisting 71 goals in the process.

The 30-year-old former Ajax playmaker will be one of the first signings of Erik ten Hag’s era at Manchester United. The Red Devils are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia and are in talks to get Frenkie de Jong on board from Barcelona.

Manchester United have the Cristiano Ronaldo situation to handle as well, with the Portuguese international reportedly willing to move on this summer after growing frustrated with the club’s activity, or the lack of it, in the transfer market so far. For now, though, Manchester United are set to sign two players imminently and will hope to seal Eriksen’s deal quickly.
