Manchester United are prepared to sell Alex Telles after two sub-par seasons from the Brazilian defender.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United are ready to offload Alex Telles in the window after the Brazilian’s underwhelming displays in the two seasons at Old Trafford.

Since joining from FC Porto in 2020, Alex Telles has never managed to convince the Manchester United bosses and fans of his ability to make a difference in attack or defence, apart from a few impressive displays here and there. His role demands a player be at his electric best at a big club and perform admirably on both ends of the pitch.

The Brazilian had forged a reputation to be the attacking full-back at FC Porto, something that the Old Trafford crowd craved after Luke Shaw’s development had stalled. Instead, Telles has been largely underwhelming with his performances at the club.

As Luke Shaw lumbered through an injury-affected season in 2021/22, Telles got plenty of game time to set the tone. However, the left-back was poor, making high-profile defensive mistakes that cost Manchester United valuable points in the top-four race.

Moreover, there were reports of a significant bust-up between Telles and 19-year-old Hannibal Mejbri in the training ground a few days after Manchester United’s disastrous defeat to Brighton. The club hierarchy was reportedly left unimpressed, along with new manager Erik ten Hag, who seems to have made his decision.

Manchester United are ready to offload the defender at a reasonable price, as they feel there is still a market for him. Former side FC Porto are reportedly interested in re-signing the full-back, which may seem like a calculated decision by the Portuguese side.

He signed from Porto for a £13.5 million fee and Manchester United may look to recoup most of that amount in this window through his sale. Tyrell Malacia has agreed on terms over a move and will soon become Manchester United’s first summer signing. And the 20-year-old’s arrival will likely signal the end of the road for Telles, who could be asked to look for a new club.

Telles still has two years left on his contract at Manchester United, and at 29 years of age, the Brazilian could fetch a reasonable price in this market. Whether there are significant suitors for the left-back remains to be seen, although it’s doubtful any big teams will come for his services.
