Serie A giants Lazio have reportedly made an offer to sign Real Madrid defensive prospect Mario Gila on loan this summer with an option to buy.

According to the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Defensa Central, Real Madrid defender Mario Gila has emerged as a transfer target for Italian heavyweights Lazio, who have tabled an offer to loan him with a purchase option.

Gila has been part of the Real Madrid setup since 2018 when he arrived from Espanyol. Initially becoming part of Los Blancos’ Juvenil A roster, he was promoted to the Castilla team a year later, and has since featured 73 times for Raul Gonzalez’s side, even scoring five and assisting three goals.

Gila made his first-team debut for Real Madrid in April earlier this year, coming on as a substitute in a La Liga clash against Espanyol. He also featured in the league game against Levante which Los Blancos won 6-0.

However, with Real Madrid signing Antonio Rudiger this summer to bolster their defensive ranks, there is no space for Gila in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans as things stand. Indeed, Los Merengues already have Eder Militao, David Alaba, Nacho Fernandez and Jesus Vallejo as options along with Rudiger, making it nearly impossible for Gila to break into the side.

So, a summer exit is on the horizon for the 21-year-old defensive prospect, who is now attracting serious interest from Italy. As per the report, Serie A giants Lazio are keen on signing the Spanish defender and have even sent in a proposal to secure his services from Real Madrid.

Lazio are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer and are looking to make cost-effective signings who fit into their squad. Maurizio Sarri wishes to sign a centre-back who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and sees Gila as a viable option to add to his roster.

To that end, the Italian capital club have made an offer to Real Madrid to loan the youngster for the upcoming campaign with an option to make the move permanent in 2023. Gila is contracted with the Spanish giants until 2024, and the club could consider the possibility of loaning him out or selling him with a buyback clause inserted.

Gila is not the only Real Madrid defender Lazio are looking at, with fellow centre-back Victor Chust also on their radars, although they will face competition from Serie A rivals Empoli for the player.
