Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale is set to move to the United States this summer, joining LAFC on a year-long deal.

According to the reliable David Ornstein, Gareth Bale is closing in on a move to LAFC. The Real Madrid forward has agreed a year-long deal with the MLS outfit, with an option to extend the deal for eighteen more months. LAFC won’t have to negotiate any deal with Real Madrid as the attacker’s current contract at the club expires at the end of the month.

Bale’s acquisition could be another feather in the cap for LAFC, who are enjoying a fruitful summer. They have already brought in Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini earlier in the summer.

Their move for Bale should put an end to a surprisingly lengthened transfer saga that saw the attacker being linked with a move to Cardiff City. Tottenham Hotspur were in contention to sign him back as well, although the Lilywhites pulled the plug on the move eventually.

Bale indeed had a host of clubs to choose from, but he opted to join LAFC in order to continue playing ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Having guided his nation to their first World Cup, the Welshman will be expected to play a key role in the competition. His experience and attacking quality could go a long way in helping Wales achieve a respectable finish.

Bale won’t be the first star player to leave Real Madrid this summer. The European champions are open to offers for Luka Jovic, who is courted by Fiorentina, while the likes of Isco and Marcelo are set to depart officially at the end of the month.

LAFC, meanwhile, will be delighted to have completed the capture of one of the most decorated players in Europe. With five UEFA Champions League titles, Bale could arguably become the biggest player to play in Major League Soccer, especially at an age where he can be at the top of his game at least for a few more years.

LAFC are already leading the charts in MLS this year. The addition of Bale could further strengthen their attacking unit that is led by Carlos Vela.
