Dean Henderson is reportedly on the verge of completing a summer move to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest, in a season-long loan deal.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest over the season-loan deal of Dean Henderson. The goalkeeping talent will be loaned out to the newly-promoted Premier League outfit ahead of the new season, with the Reds set to pay the player’s full salary.

Henderson’s move to Nottingham Forest will put an end to a long transfer saga that has seen the Englishman being linked with a move to a myriad of clubs across England. He had notably agreed personal terms with Newcastle United earlier this month, but the Magpies have ended up signing Nick Pope from Burnley.

Pope was a cost-effective alternative to Henderson as he only had one year left on his contract at Turf Moor. Burnley’s relegation made the job easier for Newcastle, who have successfully managed to provide competition for Martin Dubravka ahead of the new season.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, are set to rope in Dean Henderson as a direct replacement for Brice Samba. The Congolese shot-stopper has been the club’s main custodian for three years. But he has confirmed he won’t be signing an extension, with his current deal in Nottingham expiring at the end of next season.

Many expect Samba to join RC Lens, provided the French outfit can reach an agreement with Nottingham Forest over the transfer fee. Samba will be replaced by Henderson, who might not offer as much experience, but certainly has the pedigree at the highest level of football, having previously made an impression at Sheffield United.

Henderson’s Premier League spell at Manchester United has been a disaster, but the 25-year-old has shown his quality time and time again, making him a shrewd acquisition for the Reds.

As for Manchester United, they are scouring the market to sign a new goalkeeper in light of Henderson’s likely exit from Old Trafford. The Red Devils have reportedly opened talks to sign Watford starlet Daniel Bachmann, who offers international experience and has what it takes to compete with David de Gea in the coming season.
