Manchester United are ready to part ways with 21-year-old academy graduate Brandon Williams in this summer transfer window.

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are ready to part ways with full-back Brandon Williams in the ongoing 2022 summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Old Trafford, eventually making his first-team bow under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He has since made 50 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring once and assisting three more. While he did show promise, it has failed to translate into a bigger role in the playing squad.

Williams was loaned out to Norwich City for the 2021/22 campaign, and he made 26 appearances for the Canaries as they once again failed to stave off relegation from the English top flight. The 21-year-old might have enjoyed regular playing time at Carrow Road, but it did little to impress Manchester United, who are now ready to cash in.

With Erik ten Hag now in charge, a squad revamp is the need of the hour at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are miles behind Manchester City and Liverpool and cannot afford to humour players who cannot contribute to their upliftment.

Williams, for all his promise, has been found wanting several times, and it comes as no surprise that ten Hag does not appear keen to keep him on. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka also on the chopping blocks, it would appear that the Dutchman wants a clean slate on his full-back roster at right-back.

While some could claim that Williams is young, his lack of development over the last two seasons has been alarming. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James are miles ahead of him while only being a handful of years older. The difference in quality is rather striking. The role of an all-action full-back has been reinvented in modern football, and Williams appears to be off the pace.

The same can be said of other youngsters like Phil Foden or Bukayo Saka, both of who have continued developing on their initial promise. Age is no barrier if the application is right, but Williams’ progress appears to have stalled and Manchester United have informed him that he can look for a different club this summer.

The 21-year-old has the ability to become a regular for a mid-table Premier League side. However, the standards expected at Manchester United are much higher. Unless there is a late change of plans, it would appear that Williams is set to bid goodbye to the Theatre of Dreams in the coming weeks.
